My 2010 Students!!!

Engineering Company Students:

Ximena (30 years old) - My first female student when I arrived here in Fortaleza. Nowdays, she is MUCH more than just a student - she is my best friend! She helped me advance as a teacher, grow professionally, introduced me to a whole bunch of new friends and her whole family and basically is always there for me whenever I need a listening ear or a partner in crime. Honestly don't know what life would be without her...

Emerson (29 years old) - Ximena's brother in law. Ximena calls him "penguin" because he is all fluffy and meek-hearted. He is great fun to be around and our classes together consist of watching You Tube videos, recounting the week's lattest gossip and having him tell me that all the songs I use in class are "gay songs" - well, he isn't completely wrong since "Lucky" from Britney Spears, "Big, Big World" from Emilia, "Hero" from Beyonce and "You Belong With Me" from Taylor Swift are in the playlist.

Alfred (34 years old) - From today on I will refer to him as "Rainman". Everything in his life is routinary, scheduled, organized, methodic and tidy. He is a single man (has a steady girlfriend) but I have never seen a cleaner apartment in my entire life!!! There isn't a single hair on the floor, not a tad of dust, nothing! And everything he does and the way he acts is so robotic that I hold myself to not scream at him: "AHHHH!!! BE WEIRD! Laugh with your mouth open, sit with your legs open, leave something out of place...just do it!!!"

Matthew (50 years old) - An older man. He is really funny and a fellow vegetarian - yay! He gets super into his class and after class he will show me his favorite You Tube music videos or will talk about UFO's, Space Crafts, Aliens or something of the likes...

Early morning Company Students:

Mario (43 years old) - Company student. At first sight he seems real serious but if you talk to him and get to know him better you'll be surprised at all his funny jokes and playfull moods. The fact that he is really helpful makes me like him all the more.

Carlos (forty some) - Company student. I had taught my students the other day how whenever they arrived at someone's house they should greet them with a "good evening" and only say "good night" when they were leaving. Early the next morning, at 7:00 am, Carlos arrives and with a big smile on his face and says: "Good Evening Teacher!" The whole class breaks out in laughter. From then on all my students nicknamed him "Good Evening". Hah! He is real funny and loves studying English.

Albino (27 years old) - Company student. Young, blue eyes, good-looking. Goofy smile, kind of dorky but a fun student. He tries to be cool and I hold myself not to burst into laughter whenever he looks at me and says: "Hey Girl!" or "Good Morning Girl!" Yikes!!!

Re See (late thirties) - Company Student. Major Albino flirt...half of the time in class she is slapping him, giggling at him, rubbing his arm, smiling his way or helping him out with his homework. I don't usually mind but sometimes it can get to be annoying...Albino has a girlfriend but even then he "da corda" for her flirtyness. The best time was once when Re See noticed a large, dark hickey in his neck and she pouted over it while he blushed into many shades of red, hahahaha...

Marianne (24 years old) - Company Student. In charge of the Public Relations Department she is also responsible to hire and fire the company's employees so everyone is all scared of her - pretty funny as she is a complete sweetheart and super meek hearted. 

Paulo (53 years old) - Company Student. I LOVE this student. He has a hard time sometimes in the classroom as all the other students are a lot younger so they usually catch on a bit quicker. But other than that he is the student every teacher would love to have. Helpful, playful, makes the class fun - and not to say that he is my faithful chocolate supplier, hah!

Jose (29 years old) - Company Student. One word to describe him: CLOWN!!! He doesn't even have to try to be funny, he just is! Every phrase he says makes the whole class crack up in laughter. He loves filming and taking photos of embarrassing situations and moments that happen at the company! I am constantly on the lookout to make sure he isn't capturing a "moment" in which I happen to be in...

Jon (30 years old) - Company Student. Soon to be married, is all smiles everywhere he goes. It’s cute to see a guy in love.

Pedro (29 years old) - Company Student. Married and has a baby. He is very shy but extremely intelligent and a quick learner.

Students from the Big Fancy Hotel:

Priscilla (35 years old) - You would never say that she is 35 as she looks a lot younger and is full of vitality and amazingly active.

Maria Claudia (50 years old) – Mrs. hot shot in the Hotel. She is a staunch Catholic and still completely in love with her husband after being married to him for many, many years...cute!

Carla (27 years old) - Seven months old...her daughter is soon going to pop out - Woohooo!!! I really like her as she is very loving and truly enjoys herself in our English classes.

Vera (28 years old) - Shy, quiet and has a hard time speaking English in front of her six other classmates.

Kerala (43 years old) - What I like the most about this student is how she can make any absurd outfit she wears look stylish and classy on her. From puffy ballerina skirts to a polka dot black and white sixties dress to a social skirt with sporty shirt on top, and on the list goes...

Renato (22 years old) - The last thing I am is a gay fan – and usually I can’t stand being around one. But this particular student of mine pretty much won me over. Gay boy is intelligent, fun to talk to and with a good perception on many things of life. He is traveling to another state next month and I know I will miss him.

Renan (40 years old) - Another gay student of mine. Has the quirkiest stories EVER that make my jaw fall forward every time he recounts another of his "gay experiences". And of course, he loves being the center of attentions.

Electronic Engineering Company:

Andre (28 years old) - The first English class I gave him was tragic. I felt like burying my head into the toilet as he seemed a lost case in learning. Now I am VERY glad to say that I was VERY wrong! He is catching on quite well and surprising me each day as he learns more and more...

Victor (27 years old) - For some reason I can never remember his name and always call him Andre for 'God knows what' reason. It's now a big game to see how many times I mess up and call him "Andre". They got so into it that now we have come to counting to see who "wins". Aiaiaiaiai...

Gislena (26 years old) - Victor's six year girlfriend. A petite woman with a very firm character and strong personality. I have stopped trying to figure out her and Victor's relationship...it’s way too complex (and this story most certainly deserves a future post!)

Jones (30 years old) - Party animal. Loves drinking, talking and coming back home at 9:00 am in the morning after having been partying from since yesterday at noon!!! Very fun to talk to and a great listening ear.

Sexual Fantasy (26 years old) - My HOT student! But not only is he incredibly good looking but he is also one of my favorite students and closest friend here in Fortaleza. He is someone that you can count on no matter what. I am always asking him favors and he does them without a second thought and sometimes goes even beyond that.

Flight Attendants:

Viviane (23 years old) - She is real sweet and runs after what she wants in life - and for now that is to become a flight attendant! I also can't help but envy her amazing shape...yes, she is veryyyyyyyyyyy HOT!!! No wonder Sexual Fantasy is now into her, heh!

Kleber (23 years old) – Very handsome charming fellow. In my eyes I picture him as a "little boy" as all he does in life is sleep, eat, go out partying, study, try to "figure out what I want to do in life" and then smiles as mommy pays it all for him. But other than that he is a nice, good looking guy.

Other Students:

Gypsy (18 years old) - Very innocent and naive. Very much a "daddy's little girl" but at least she has a kind personality and studies hard to please her parents. She has the most amazing bookshelf filled up with hundreds of books - and one of them always ends up in my bag for my weekend read!

Julia (34 years old) - Lovely features. Shortie pie. Big boobs. Blondie. Puckered lips. Freckles. You would NEVER guess her real age. I haven't seen her in a while as she is an IBM consultant and does a lot of traveling, but I certainly miss our long talks on relationships and men...

Lucy (50 years old) - A woman I seriously admire. She is married and handles her relationship with her husband in a fascinating way, works as a zoologist, traveled all over Brazil and some places in the world, has three cats which I adore (and normally I HATE cats...these are the only ones I took a liking to which is a miracle in itself!), is a potter and has some amazing works of art to show off. Even being sterile and never being able to have kids it's quite remarkable how she loves life and enjoys it to the full!!!

Gil (55 years old) - Lucy's husband. Their marriage is fantastic! It's the kind of thing that you see right in front of you and then silently pray to God that He'll grant you exactly the same thing that they have when you finally do get married as well. Well, other than that he is from the South of Brazil and his faithful companion is a thermos with hot water and "cha mate".

Marie (33 years old) - Married three months ago and her and her husband just moved here to Fortaleza. She doesn't have any friends here so she opened up real quickly in our English classes and I took a quick liking to her honest and forward way of being. She used to be a public school teacher and then the owner of a large hairdresser in her city but since she moved here to Fortaleza she stopped working.

And then there is the last company that I give classes to. Next post will be all about this large group that I am now giving class to and all the insane, crazy, wild, funny and touching experiences that happen in that orange classroom - "Sexual Frustration Classroom" as I call it. I first give classes to the owner of the company called Fabio. These are my students respectively: Diana, Adriana, Amelia, Michelle, Laura, Elena, Lisi, Gisele, Miranda, Ricardo, Rafael, Filipe and Cesar.

Well, there you go! These are my 2010 students – 46 in total!!! No wonder I’ve become a workaholic :/ but let’s see which ones will make it and follow me on 2011…but whoever doesn’t at least got a little place in my blog post, and of course, heart  :D
